One of the most frustrating things for a vaper is surely when his device isn`t giving the expected juice and satisfaction, or worse if it isn`t working at all. Now, imagine that happening without a spare and on a Sunday with stores closed…. drama unfolding!
While not every device can be repaired, luckily there are methods which could fix many common issues, as long as you know how, and that is why we are here. Let us go through the list of inconveniences which you might come across.
1. Vape Device Not Switching On
a) Keep in mind that there are devices which need to be switched on manually, while others that go active as soon as you inhale. However, the most common method to switch on a vape is to click the button 5 times in quick succession. Having said that, some devices could work with a different amount of clicks, so do try different combinations or check the manual.
Also, locking systems exist on certain devices to prevent accidents especially while the device is in your pocket. Some devices have this lock button on the side; therefore, it is easy to switch it on involuntarily like while putting it in your trousers/jeans. So, check if that lock is on as obviously it won`t let you vape.
This shouldn`t be too difficult to resolve though, you either switch the lock off, or if you have an interactive device you may need to do that via the menu or check the manual. Some devices may have this lock on the base too so check your vape out.
b) If your vape is rechargeable, another basic reason why your device isn`t switching on is lack of power, in which case you need to give it a charge.
Moreover, there might be an issue with the connection between the pod/tank and the battery. If possible and for safety power down the battery, then using a cotton bud make sure that both the end of the pod/tank and battery terminal are clean.
2. Vape is Leaking
a) Progress has been made in designs, and leaking is far less common, however we still have yet to encounter a 100% leak proof refillable tank.
Take care to change coils that are nearing their life expectancy as it may struggle to vaporise the e-liquid which might cause flooding. Change either the coil or the pod.
In case of adjustable wattage device, check if it`s set too low as it won`t generate enough power to heat the coil and the latter won`t vaporise the e-liquid. Look for recommended wattage usually printed on the coil or listed in the manual.
b) Follow the marked line on the pods/tanks as they are not meant to be filled to the brim, avoid overfilling.
c) Make sure tank is screwed in properly.
d) If your tank has an O-ring, check if it is broken or it has moved. Replacements exist.
If the leak problem persists, try changing the device or try a closed pod system.
3. No Vapour is Being Generated
a) Firstly, check if you have a blocked mouthpiece or airflow holes. Clean them and make sure that they are clear of dust and dirt.
b) See if you have your VG:PG ratio wrong.
c) Charge device, as low power batteries affect the amount of vapour you get.
4. Check Atomiser/No Coil Message
a) Usually you will see one of the above messages on your device if it has a screen that is. This is referring to the coil not being detected, therefore check the connection between your vape device and pod/tank, or with a cotton bud clean the coil and the connection. It may be the case that the pod or the coil needs to be changed.
5. No Nicotine or Throat Hit
Now, as we go along you will start to notice that many of the issues have common causes and resolutions which we have already visited. Therefore, we will be mentioning the reasons, while you can retrieve the methods as aforementioned.
a) It is not always the device, you could be getting the inhale wrong or using too little nicotine.
b) Battery low on power.
c) Coil nearing expiry.
d) Flooded tank/pod.
e) Type of vape juice – if you prefer stronger nicotine hits try using regular 10ml e-liquids or try salts.
f) Utilising the wrong VG:PG ratio.
g) Check out alternative devices, as some generate stronger nicotine hits on the throat.
6. My Vape Taste Burnt
It is one of the least pleasant experiences when you pretend to vape the flavour you chose and instead it tastes like burnt cotton. Again, technology is managing to keep these occurrences on the low, but for those who still get it:
a) Try to avoid using the pod/tank straight away after filling it, let the vape juice soak in for a couple of minutes.
b) Prime the coil first, by simply dropping few drops of vape juice directly onto it and into any ports. If you have a more advanced coil, videos exist on how to prime those.
c) Coil nearing expiry.
d) Insufficient vape juice – ensure there`s enough liquid in the tank to cover the coil`s holes to avoid that it dries out.
7. Not Getting Enough Flavour
First check if the e-liquid you are using is subtle when compared to what you are accustomed to vaping. If the problem persists, try:
a) Blowing gently on the pod/tank as sometimes it works to release flavour, but don`t blow too hard or it can leak.
b) Change your pod/coil.
8. Gurgling Noise While Vaping
Most probably you have a flooded pod or tank, but also check other causes like:
a) Shaking the tank/pod too much
b) Inhaling too hard
c) Overfilling the pod/tank
d) Cross-threading the tank
e) Screwing the tank too lose/tight
f) Pressing the button too long before you inhale
9. Vape Charger Isn`t Working
The most common issues with this would be:
a) Using the wrong vape charger – avoid phone/laptop chargers
b) Terminals aren`t clean
c) Terminals aren`t touching
d) The charger is the issue
10. Vape Spitting When Fire Button is Pressed
Again, these issues are being reduced with modern devices, but for those who still encounter such instances it is mainly due to the coil being flooded.
a) Try blowing into the mouthpiece and/or changing the coil.
b) Change device as there exist ones who eliminate this problem, reducing condensation and spit back.
c) If you don`t want to invest in a new device yet, just point it away from you when you press the button.
11. Blank Screen
Check if you have your device on stealth mode as it hides the screen, otherwise:
a) press the fire button 3 times to enter menu
b) press the up/down button together
Alternatively check manual.
